 This large moon has a few oddities to it. First, its orbit is quite eccentric and has a large inclination - well over 90 degrees!. Generally, it is believed that this moon was formed from the debris of the catastrophic collision that tilted Godzilla's orbit by more than 20 degrees. Some few others however believe that Liaququ 5a was a cosmic wanderer that was captured by Liaququ 5's huge gravity field, while even fewer others think that Liaququ 5a is the rocky nucleus of the gas giant that collided with Liaququ 5. Whatever its origins may be, Liaququ 5a is a huge moon, almost as big as Earth in diameter and with one-quarter of its mass. Its density however is lower, around 2.8, this in turn being responsible for a weaker gravitational pull than one would expect from a body of this size.
 Liaququ 5a's interior is a massive jumble of ices and asteroid-sized rocks locked together by the cold. This is another argument in favour of the collision debris origin of the moon. A thin atmosphere comprised mostly of nitrogen, methane, hydrogen, helium and noble gasses surrounds the planet. The atmospheric pressure at surface level is a meager 98 mbars and it is almost 100% transparent. Its surface is criss-crossed by massive canyons and fault lines, some almost 2 kilometers deep. Large glaciers (mostly water but some are ammonia) dot the landscape.
 Human presence on Liaququ 5a goes back 250 years. Soon after Liaququ gained its independence from the Empire, the young Liaququan shipbuilding industry found itself in dire need of raw materials. Since mantle tapping technologies to be used on Strauss's Wreck weren't yet perfected, the Liaququans had at first to import their raw materials. However, neferous ores were plentiful on Liaquq 5a and b and a decision was made to exploit them. A mining expedition set foot on 5a in 3057, and from then on 5a was known as First Mine. Only three months later, the first ore shipments from 5a were heading for the shipyards around Sentinel (see History).
 Today, around 1000 people crew the higly automatised mines on 5a. Since the planet is strictly a mining colony, nobody bothered building a starport. Reusable launch vehicles are used to reach orbit where the cargos and transport ships wait. Since the re-start of the mining operations on Strauss's Wreck, 5a role as raw ores provider has diminished, but is still a major provider of alumina, copper, manganese and building materials: rock, marble, sand etc.
