System of Liaququ

Medium gas giant.

Canonical name: Liaququ 6
IAO official name: *
Nickname: Sentinel, Fill'er Up
Mass: 71.17 Earth masses
Diameter: 88,700 km
Major starports: *
Surface temperature: 90 K
Orbital period: 99.5 years
Orbital radius: 25.876 AUs
Orbital eccentricity and inclination: 0.026, 11.1°

The outermost planet of the system is totally devoid of natural satellites and the usual gaggle of debris so common to the other gas giants in this system. A faint ring encircles the planet in a very low orbit and is believed to be a remnant of a much larger ring system that gradually has decayed from orbit, a process which still continues today. This is also the smallest of the three gas giants in the system, and sports a blueish shade due to high amounts of methane in the upper atmosphere.
The plante's name, Sentinel, is new. Up until some 200 years ago, it was known just as Liaququ 6, plain and simple. However, the LDF chose it as the perfect place to orbit its main naval base, HQ, intersystem FTL tachyon relays and comms satellites. All of Liaququ's shipbuilding industry shipyards are also orbiting Sentinel. Most of the LDF fleet during peacetime is in parking orbit around Sentinel too. The GIN node also lies here in a high polar orbit. Due to its low mass and proximity to hyperspace exit points it also was a preferred fuel-scooping destination, however since the establishment of the Navy base, it is forbidden to approach Sentinel to less that 0.1 AUs without clearance from LDF HQ (see LDF).
On 16 Frebruary of 3205, an Imperial battlegroup attempted to take over the LDF HQ in orbit here. The ensuing space battle was fought at less tha 1000 klicks from the cloud tops at an estimated 330 km/sec in hyperbolic orbit, lasted only 49 seconds and was won by the LDF. Heavy losses were inflicted on both sides, especially heavy on the LDF given its relative small size, but nonetheless the Imperials were prevented from achieving their goals (see History).
Sentinel is now used extensively by LDF tanker ships for refuelling, and as such is sometimes referred to as Fill'er Up.
